EMB Caraga sent personnel of the Environmental Education and Information Unit (EEIU) to discuss the status of solid waste management of Local Government Units (LGUs) in Caraga Region over Kasikas sa Kinaiyahan, a radio program of DENR Caraga Regional Office at Hope Radio Philippines-Butuan on August 3, 2021.

Information about the closure of some open dumpsites in the region was presented. Also mentioned was about the other requirements of the law, Republic Act 9003, also known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, that every LGU must comply with.

Moreover, EEIU team talked about the latest policy of the DENR through the National Solid Waste Management Council about the phasing-out of single-use plastics such as plastic cups, straws, and stirrers in the market, including the adoption of every government agency of placing a bin for wastes categorized as medical or hazardous wastes. The team explained that the latter will help preventing the spread of COVID-19 virus. ###
