EMB Caraga through the Ambient Monitoring and Technical Services Section (AMTSS) conducted a 3-day river profiling within the areas of Veruela and Esperanza of Agusan del Sur, which started August 10 and ended today. Three rivers were assessed, the Pusilao, Baobo, and Logum.

The activity is only part of the water classification process. Before these water bodies will be finally classified according to its beneficial usage, quality monitoring and assessment of these rivers will be further conducted. And a public hearing will be initiated in the last phase.

The purpose of the classification and reclassification of water bodies as mandated by Republic Act 9275, the Philippine Clean Water Act, is to ensure that the quality of water is maintained in a safe and satisfactory condition according to its best usage. ###
