Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Caraga turned over the completed Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to LGU-Prosperidad on July 30, 2020.

The project worth Six Hundred Thousand Pesos (P600,000.00) situated at Sitio Igang, Brgy. Awa, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur is one of EMB’s support to the LGU’s implementation of RA 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. From 2012 to present, a total of seventy (70) LGUs in Caraga Region were chosen to be recipients of this program.

EMB-13’s Provincial Environmental Management Unit (PEMU) headed by Engr. Florante D. Denamarca represented the office in said activity. Engr. Denamarca emphasized during the turnover rites that EMB has strengthened this support to LGUs considering that solid waste management is one of the 10-point agenda of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu. He further stressed the role of both EMB and LGU in the implementation of RA 9003.

And in response, Mayor Mellana assured EMB-13 team that solid waste management is among the priority programs under his administration. He added that they had laid out their additional plans to solve the problem on solid waste in their area. He commended the employees of EMB-13 for its continued support for completing the project as planned.

Officials present during the activity were Vice Mayor Jerusimo L. Ronquillo, SB members and the Committee Chair on Environment Hon. Samson Austerio, MENRO Christoher Ladaga, and EMB Caraga technical staff and Environmental Monitoring Officers (EnMOs).
